Philosophy and Strategy
In 2017, the partners have dealt intensively with the legal form and the entire structure of the group. The partners decided to stay with the actual legal form of the company which is adequate in the present time. Because of this restructuring, there has also been a change at the partners level. Mr. Rolf Bühler, a partner since 2012, decided after six years to face new professional challenges. The partners greatly regret this step, as it means that succession planning must be even more focused. Due to the in-depth analysis of the strategy, decisions were also made to sell various participations.
The organizational chart is clear and accessible. On top are the managing partners followed by the internal audit. The next line is the operational management and the credit committee. The four units which follow are the investment, customer and IT unit, the trading unit, including the external asset managers, the processing, marketing and legal & compliance unit and the Zurich branch.
The general principles of the bank are “our vision, our values.”
Baumann & Cie, advises and accompanies their customers personally and individually over generations in all financial matters.

The long-term preservation of the client’s assets is at the center of the bank’s actions. Baumann’s investment specialists continuously develop ideas that help achieve the customer’s financial goals. The bank recommends their customers only those investments in which Baumann & Cie also invests with confidence.

As part of the tailor-made strategy defined with the client, the bank makes the investment decisions and implements them on an ongoing basis. The bank’s client advisors and portfolio managers continuously monitor risks and manage the assets actively.
If the clients enjoy making the investment decisions by themselves but don’t want to give up on Baumann’s recommendations and the banks many years of experience, then Baumann & Cie is offering the following:
- Preparation and monitoring of an individual investment strategy
- Concrete and sound investment proposals

Baumann’s top priority is to protect the client’s assets and manage them as part of the mutually agreed strategy. The bank achieves the best possible result through a long-term investment strategy.
Baumann deliberately avoids excessive diversification and sets clear priorities in investments that inspire them. The bank prefers investments denominated in Swiss francs, such as equities and bonds. The investments are liquid, tradable at any time and meet Baumann’s qualitative requirements regarding excellence, liquidity, and transparency.
The investment committee is headed by Mr. Daniel O.A. Rüedi. In their monthly meetings, the committee examines and analyzes the different asset classes, regions, and currencies. A fundamental analysis serves as a basis for decision making.
In addition to the analysis of the real and monetary economic situation, the interest rate environment, the valuation of the markets, market technology, and market psychology are assessed in the context of the investment process.
Risk management is an essential part of the bank’s policy. The aim is to improve profitability, increase the bank’s value and preserve resources. The Managing Partners are responsible for the overall risk policy. The main risks include the credit risk, the market risk, the liquidity risk, the operational risk, and the reputational risk.
Baumann’s core capital stays at 124 million CHF, more than double the requirements set by the FINMA. The rate for short-term liquidity stays at 470 %.
In a first step, Baumann will acquire a 25% stake in Crystal Asset Management in Zollikon. The company provides asset management services in the field of investment advisory and financial consulting. The company is specialized in investments of European Small & Mid-Caps. A majority stake will be sought in a second phase.
Once a month, Baumann & Cie publishes a 4-page customer letter. The letter will tell the client how the bank thinks, and what moves them and the markets, and what investment advice the bank gives to their customers.
The partners and employees of Baumann & Cie take specific responsibility and support selected institutions and associations from the fields of culture, sports, and social affairs as a sponsor and donors.
