In 1590 Hans and Paul Berenberg founded their trading house business in Hamburg. In 1711 they changed their business to a bank.

The owners of the bank have a personal liability; therefore, Bergos AG has a high level of management continuity and strict risk management. During its over 430 years of history, the bank had only 38 different partners with personal liability.

Berenberg Bank (Switzerland) Ltd was established in 1988 and is an independent and autonomous Swiss bank. The bank has offices in Zurich and Geneva and assists international and domestic clients in managing their assets.

Bergos AG is one of the leading asset managers in cost-effectiveness and profitability.
In 2018, while celebrating the bank’s 30th anniversary, some ambitious shareholders, together with the actual management attained 80.1 % of the bank.

In 2020 Berenberg Bank, Hamburg, the former mother company sold its remaining shares.
This was the origin of Bergos AG. Bergos is composed of Ber (Berenberg) and Gos (Gossler).
The new name Bergos represents the two founding families Berenberg and Gossler.
